Privacy Policy — Image Exporter for ChatGPT

Image Exporter for ChatGPT (“the extension”) is a Chrome extension that exports the AI-generated images from a ChatGPT conversation to your computer, together with a CSV of each image's prompt, and can optionally have ChatGPT suggest keywords and embed them in each file's metadata. This policy explains exactly what the extension does and does not do with your information. Image Exporter for ChatGPT is not affiliated with OpenAI.

The short version

The extension collects no personal data and has no servers. It talks only to ChatGPT's own servers, using the session already in your browser, and it works only on chatgpt.com. Everything it produces is saved to your own computer.

What we collect

Nothing. The extension does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal information. There are no user accounts, no ads, no tracking, and no third-party services. There is no analytics or telemetry code in the extension at all — no usage events, no crash reporting, no user or install identifier. If a future version ever adds an optional analytics setting, this page will be updated first, and it will be off by default.

What the extension stores, and where

Exactly two settings, and nothing else:

• Your tagging language — stored in chrome.storage.sync and local. Because it uses Chrome Sync, this one setting roams to your other Chrome browsers signed into the same Google account, via Google's own sync — the extension itself sends it nowhere.
• Your “overwrite existing files” choice — stored the same way.

Your ChatGPT session token is never stored, never logged, and never sent anywhere other than to ChatGPT itself. It is held in memory only for the duration of one scan and discarded.

What the extension reads, and what it never keeps

When you click the toolbar icon on a ChatGPT conversation, the extension reads that conversation through ChatGPT's own API, using your existing session — in that moment it acts as you, on your own content. It walks the conversation once, in memory, to find the generated images and reconstruct their prompts, then discards it. Your conversation is never persisted by the extension and never sent to us or to any third party — there is no “us” to send it to.

What the extension writes

• To your computer: the image files (original bytes, never re-encoded), a metadata.csv listing each image's prompt and details, and — for tagged PNG files — a metadata block with an AI-suggested title and keywords.
• AI-written text lands in your files. If you use “Tag and download”, the titles and keywords written into the CSV and into each PNG's metadata are generated by ChatGPT, not written by you, and are saved without your review.
• Into your ChatGPT conversation. “Tag and download” posts real messages into your own conversation — one per selected image, plus one at the start of the run. They become a permanent, visible part of your chat history and use your own ChatGPT quota. The plain download does not do this.

Network activity

The extension talks only to ChatGPT: chatgpt.com and OpenAI's own image hosts (such as oaiusercontent.com), which are allow-listed in the code. It contains no third-party runtime code and no analytics or telemetry code at all — no CDN, no tracking pixel, no crash reporter, and no remote code. It makes no requests to any server other than ChatGPT's.

Permissions and why they exist

• downloads — to save the images and the metadata.csv file to your Downloads folder.
• storage — to remember the two settings listed above.
• notifications — to show a desktop notification when a long tagging job finishes, in case you switched tabs.
• Host access to chatgpt.com only — the extension runs only on chatgpt.com and cannot read or act on any other website you visit. Its helper script loads on ChatGPT pages but does nothing until you click the toolbar icon.

Chrome's install warning reads approximately “Read and change your data on chatgpt.com”. In practice this means: the extension can read the AI-generated images in the conversation you are viewing so it can list and download them, and — only if you use “Tag and download” — post the tag-request messages described above.

Permissions the extension deliberately does not request: <all_urls> or any broad wildcard, activeTab, scripting, tabs, cookies, webRequest, identity, clipboardWrite, offscreen, unlimitedStorage — and no host permission for any domain other than chatgpt.com.

Data retention and deletion

There is nothing to retain on our side. The two settings live in your browser's extension storage; uninstalling the extension removes them. The files it saved are ordinary files in your Downloads folder, under your control. Messages posted into your ChatGPT conversation by “Tag and download” are part of your ChatGPT history and can be managed there like any other message.

Children

The extension is a general-purpose productivity tool and is not directed at children. It collects no data from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new effective date.
